Adventures in Nursing

I am still on break from taking births, but I figured I had better change my blog title if I wanted to keep chronicling my adventures in nursing and birthing. I am thrilled to hear about births from neighbors, friends and family and am always happy to lend a helping hand if I can or offer advice.

Although I have been taking courses for nursing school for two years, it is FINALLY my first clinical semester in nursing school and I am learning "fundamentals." I have done fingersticks for glucose monitoring, changed soiled linens, made an occupied bed, used a lift to transfer a patient from gurney to wheelchair, changed a central line dressing, and assisted in bathing clients -- for starters. The best part is getting the history just by chatting and doing detective work by scouring every line of a patient's chart. It's fun being on the floor learning and it is really nice to feel useful.
